Digital Techs In Classroom Make Learning Process Enhanced And Improved

There are things that we utilise to make things right. Technology is one such element in human life that has the capability to make things right. But my concern is not technology but how we use it. I am in the favour of devising techs for enhancing and enriching the standard of education. To make learning simple, relevant, meaningful and practical. Although there are several technologies but are these being properly applied to improve education exercises in the classroom? The answer is- only a few use technology in classroom while the majority of the teachers still ignore it. But what could be the reason for not utilising the advanced digital tools?

Technology needed but….

In a survey of teachers conducted in the US in December 2015 has presented some amazing facts. Two third of the teachers said that they want to include technology but they would require further training. On the other hand, overall 90% said for the success of classroom technology is essential. Imagine, when the scenario is that unusual in the most developed part of the world what could be the situation in the countries where to forget about technology even regular classroom facilities are not present. Education technology is designed to deliver improved and complex learning in most simpler manner.

Installation of techs & training

Why experts give so much importance on installing digital technology in classroom? Integration of technology in the classroom could help teachers in many ways. Teachers can make educational activities interesting with video and graphic contents. There is apps and software which allows to track the attendance and even sitting updates of the students. Moreover, many techs allow teachers to provide real-time reports on the performance of the children directly to the parents. And most importantly this tech reduce the additional burden from teachers. With techs, instructors can provide next classroom learning schedule, homework and assignments, notify exam and so on. Hence, going through all the aspects technology becomes impeccable in the modern education. And that’s why schools and other institutes need to adopt techs which may be useful for them and their students.

Now the next part is -Training. The survey conducted in the US is the eye-opener for all of us.
Technology can be there what it’s of no use if people don’t know how to use it. Thus, teachers should be provided with adequate training to use technologies that will help to facilitate learning in more advanced manner. The better the teacher are trained the better the techs will be put to use. So why not equip teachers with the robust sound of techs for enhancing the classroom learning?

Make it right

Anyway in future classrooms will be digitised. The tone has to set right from this time. The foundation laid today will actually pay off in the future the development of all from teachers, students to schools and institutes. Besides, with the help of technology, we can engage poor and undeserved children to take education. Since technology has significant role to play in delivering education we cannot risk to avoid it.

The duties and responsibilities of a teacher is now not limited with the chalk and blackboard. Alike the management students, even they need to think of creative ideas and perform tasks which were once considered beyond the responsibilities.

Technology has made us a slave to its benefits. So education cannot stay far away from it.

TechInEducation

Now-a-days teachers need to be tech geeks in order to handle educational apps, online discussion forums and even social media conversations.

Education Across Africa – Its Challenges & Solutions

                                             Source – bit.ly/1LKCdJc

Education is currently one of the biggest concerns in Africa as most of the nations in the continent have a poor education system which is incapable of creating well trained and knowledgeable graduates who can successfully compete in the global job market. The truth is African education is presently facing a number of challenges like political, social and economic challenges, terrorism, poverty, illiteracy and inadequate infrastructure in schools.

Education In Africa

                   Source – bit.ly/1BJaoCF

Presently, there is a strong need for greatly improving our education system as our students are practically not learning anything useful or gaining any skills which will equip them to build a lucrative career and add to the national economy. Instead, we have developed an ineffectual grading system which promotes rote learning only to secure high scores in exams. As a result our graduates are ill prepared to enter the workforce and lack the knowledge and skills of graduates from other parts of the world.

Now it has become imperative that we raise our academic standards so that our universities can be at par with global institutions and create better graduates so that the African youth has a fighting chance in building better lives for themselves. As per 2011-2012 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, University of Cape Town in South Africa was ranked 103 in the world which was awarded a total score of 53.2%. This goes on to show that we need to focus more on enhancing the education standard in all universities across Africa.

Here are some of the challenges which our African education sector is facing at present –

Lack Of Trained Educators

As the education system is weak from the base, we are unable to create skilled and talented educators and teachers who would guide our students and help them prosper. The educators we have don’t know how to offer meaningful and quality education to our learners.

Lack Of Government Initiative

As the political scenario is greatly influenced by corruption, the governments of different African nations do not take all the necessary steps to boost education. All several measures have been undertaken, but none have proved fruitful due to lack of funding and government support.

Poor Infrastructure In Schools

Source – bit.ly/1LtiNgb

Most primary and tertiary institutes across the continent do not have the right equipments, study materials or even buildings to teach students. As digital learning is slowly taking over the education sphere, African schools find themselves ill-equipped to provide students the best learning experience.

Apart from these, there are various other hindrances and challenges which we need to overcome to create an ideal education system. But the main question which arises now is how do we overcome these obstacles?

Here are some probable solutions to improve the state of our education system…

Sufficient Government Investment

All the governments of African nations must unite to drastically improve the education scenario. The governments must decide on enhanced investment in education schemes which will allow institutions to but the necessary equipment and build more schools across various regions.

Teacher Training

It is also important that we create skilled, well trained motivated and ethical teachers who will help our students to learn the right way and prepare for the global employment market. Our universities should launch programmes that will enable aspiring teachers to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge.

Online Learning

Today online study has become an integral part of education which allows students to learn what they want, when they want and how they want. Online education has the power to expand the reach of institutions and reach learners even in the remote parts of Africa. Our school must embrace the latest technology and offer affordable online learning opportunities to our students.

Online Education: The Best Solution For Nigerian Students

Source: bit.ly/1xNOvxO

Do you want to survive the intense competition in today’s corporate world? Then apart from acquiring necessary skills and relevant experience, you need to earn the right degree that will enable you to improve your job prospects. Nowadays, it has become imperative that you pursue an undergraduate degree to steer your career in the right direction. But students in Africa, especially in Nigeria, find it really difficult to earn degree due to various social and political reasons. Let’s have a look what are the challenges and what solutions are available for our African students….

Challenges for Nigerian students

Students and parents have to cope with some gut-wrenching reality while deciding whether to attend school or not. But I guess it has become easier for the parents to make the decision as more than 800 schools have already shut down in northeast Nigeria as a result of terrorism and insecurity.

The CCSG (Coalition of Civil Society Groups) conducted an independent assessment of the scenario which revealed that more than 194,664 students have been compelled not to attend schools due to some emergency situations. Etuk Bassey Williams, President of CCSG, believes that the closing of schools will severely affect the nation as Nigeria will be unable to achieve the primary school enrollment benchmarks set for 2015.

Does this mean Nigerian students are unable receive even basic education?

No. A number of academic analysts claim that online education can prove to be a powerful tool for schools to reach students directly in their homes, specifically in northeast Nigeria. It will not only better primary education, but also expand the reach of higher education programmes like undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across the country.

Is Online education effective?

Former president of ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities), Dr. Dipo Fashina, believes that the existing education system in Nigeria is highly flawed and it urgently needs a serious reformation. Dr. Fashina said,

“Education is the major thing that promotes being at the height of development and we are not there yet.”

You can find a large number of students already pursuing online undergraduate diploma programmes in Nigeria. This is mostly due to dysfunctional traditional education practices that produce under-prepared graduates who are unable to find suitable employment. Just like thousands of students in Nigeria, you can acquire high quality education and qualifications from recognized institutions in UK and US by studying online.

An affordable and helpful option

Online programmes offered by reputed UK colleges are not only widely recognized and accepted, but these are highly affordable as well. These programmes are offered to millions of students worldwide by using the same resources and do not require heavy infrastructure investments. Hence you can easily earn an online UK undergraduate diploma from the convenience of your home without shelling out too much money.

Nigerian students, who cannot attend conventional classrooms, can now easily participate in online learning as the opportunities are expanding with more than 175 million mobile phone subscriptions per month in the nation. Moreover, with a developing telecommunications sector and better internet broadband connectivity, the scope of online education has increased to offer Nigerian students in troubled regions a better option for learning.

Now you can easily access African-friendly versions of online education platforms offered by reputed universities in Europe and US and build your career the way you want.

Online Learning – A Trend that Journeyed with New Innovations for Career Builders

Since classroom learning dominated for generations, the majority of students, educators and even employers had a belief that there cannot be any other reliable mode of obtaining education. But later when the World Wide Web started easing lives of people, the concept of online education popularised. Despite, a lot of critics had their brows raised in regard to the implementation of such courses into schools, colleges and universities. However, the factors that led people to take up online learning strategies were temperament and self-realisation.

From postal orders to BYOD

Earlier, distance learning courses were conducted through postal orders and students used to receive their study materials on their personal addresses. Later, the major factor that made online education globally popular was the rapid growth in technology. With the launch of a wide range of digital learning tools, students realised the worth of choosing such a learning mode that can let them study at their own convenience and save a good deal of money.

Although the idea of using digital learning tools and apps for studies came later, there were those dial-up connections that used to be the initial source of connecting students to the virtual platforms. Even the blackboards today have been replaced with new electronic whiteboards that make online learners take more interest in their studies. In fact, the concept of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) learning is slowly grabbing attention of school and university administrators, and experts have even predicted that there will be a time when students would be entering classrooms with their own kindles and tablets instead of books.

As per recent reports:

  • In the United States, over 2 million undergraduates and 650,000 graduates were reported to be studying at distance
  • The majority of these students were found to be either over 20s or were balancing their professional and personal duties

The fact that online education is growing in popularity with the passage of time has been proved with the worldwide acceptance of the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Moreover, reports said that 6 universities were added to edX, one of the world’s renowned online learning platforms. As per the researchers, MOOCs have already created hype on a global basis and now they are aiming to enable students and working professionals obtain quality education.

As per the Online College Students 2012:

  • Around 14% of the students were found to enrol in full-time online courses for completing higher studies
  • 31% of the students were found to enrol in at least one online course

Even countries in Africa are now making smarter moves in implementing online courses for remote students. Nigeria was recently declared to be the only African nation with the highest population of internet users and the Iranian government has also taken the initiative to get scholarship programme for the Nigerian students.

So, online education can be called a future resolution for new age learners who would be rather exposed to new opportunities and high career prospects. What we need to find out now are the new innovations and implementations that would give virtual learners a new set of expectations to meet their career goals with ease.

Nigeria Ties Up With Positive Policies To Endorse Education!

A child without education is like a bird without wings – says a famous Tibetan proverb. If explained, this sentence would probably mean that you will never be able to relish life if you are deprived of the most important equipments, and that is of course education. Nations scoring poor in educational field are often seen suffering from poverty, corruption and violence. People, here, making their living out of nothingness have scarcely known the taste of being alive.

Education in Nigeria: Now and Then

We are grateful that technology has helped us move faster than we expected. From books and classrooms, education especially, has come a long way. Education for the entire world has evolved largely; students these days carry classes in their pockets, learn with peers across the globe, and earn degrees at home. The mission is to provide best knowledge, launch a system for all and encourage lifelong learning. Not only technologically advanced countries, but millions from developing regions are also making most of it. African countries, particularly Nigeria that was long deprived of educational and professional opportunities now have several avenues cropping up with online education.

Nigeria, fifteen years back was only aware of three fundamentally distinct education systems: the first one was indigenous system, Quranic schools were the other option, and they also had formal European-style education institutions. Indigenous system that involved school-going population to a great extent was actually diverting young Nigerians from formal education. So, how to integrate these people in a proper learning environment was a question that kept the experts baffled for years.

Nigeria, since its birth has witnessed the system going through several changes with an intention to provide more effective education. And from 1969, the birth of Curriculum Conference; National Policies on Education have kept evolving to improve the quality.  A major initiative taken in 2004 to adopt education as an instrument ‘par excellence’ for endorsing national development has stimulated the growth to a great deal. Recently, the learning institutions are going for tie-ups with international groups with a purpose to launch a relevant, affordable, and flexible learning style to enlighten the citizens of Nigeria. The administrative leaders are supporting online mode of study for better learning experience.

Good educational policies in the country can bring…

Good Leaders: Education is the only way to encourage skills. Knowledge and practice that bring qualities forth help the nations achieve efficient leaders. Curriculum only designed to make them productive in a society but innovative doesn’t really help the economy to expand.

Employment Opportunities: The reason behind most of the people picking up conventional options is of course lack of fresh curriculum and pedagogy in the country. Apart from that, entrepreneurial skills that open up new possibilities for a country are being wasted owing to lack of guidance. With proper education policies, a nation not only earns knowledge but ascertains fresh opportunities in the market.

Technological Progress: People with higher qualification and advanced knowledge help a country to make significant progresses in technological sphere. It is technological invention and innovation that helped us to form a brand new world within the last few decades. And this is hardly possible without proper knowledge and training.

More precisely, in a country without education, most of the citizens learn the art of surviving but not living. Mandela said that education is the most powerful weapon with which you can change the world; it’s good that the people have started admitting it and making slow but steady progress toward it.
